Key takeaways

  • Our top pick: Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, on a private peninsula in Riviera Nayarit, has two swimmable beaches and sits 45 minutes by car from Puerto Vallarta's airport.

  • The water changes with the season: Hanalei Bay on Kauai is usually calm from May to September and takes big swells in winter. Sargassum on Mexico's Caribbean coast peaked in June in 2026.

  • Prenatal spa menus are rare: on this list, only SpaHalekulani, 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay and Rosewood Mayakoba have a named pregnancy treatment on record.

Babymoon beach resorts where you can actually swim

Plenty of resort beaches in Mexico, Hawaii and the Caribbean come with undertow or seasonal surf that nobody 25 weeks pregnant should be testing, so we started this list from the water and worked back to the hotel.

Our first choice is Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita in Riviera Nayarit, which has two swimmable beaches on a private peninsula and a 45-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta's airport. Cap Juluca in Anguilla comes next for a sheltered Caribbean bay, and Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui for a Hawaii beach with suites to spread out in.

This list does a different job from our best luxury babymoon resorts in Mexico, which ranks resorts for rest and privacy. Here, every resort had to pass three tests: a beach or cove guests can swim from in at least one season, something specific for expecting couples (a published prenatal treatment, a babymoon offer, an adults' pool or a kitchen), and open for bookings in October 2026.

1. Cap Juluca, A Belmond Hotel: Best for a sheltered Caribbean bay

Cap Juluca runs along a mile-long beach on Maundays Bay in Anguilla, 20 minutes by car from the island's airport. Indagare describes the bay's water as calm, and Belmond includes kayaks, paddleboards and snorkeling gear at no extra charge, which makes slow laps and floating the default plan. Villas with private pools sit a short walk from the sand. The resort closes each year from mid-August to early October and reopened on October 10, 2026; the spa is now run by Guerlain.

Best for: Calm-water swimming and an easy routine.

Location: Maundays Bay, Anguilla, about 20 minutes from Clayton J. Lloyd International Airport (AXA).

The water: A sheltered bay with a mile of beach in front of the rooms.

Babymoon extras: No babymoon package is published; villas with private pools give the most privacy.

2. Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort: Best for a private, all-inclusive babymoon

Naviva sits next to its sister property, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, but it’s a separate resort: 15 tented bungalows spread across 48 acres of coastal forest, adults-only and all-inclusive. It opened in December 2022, and Forbes Travel Guide rates it Four Stars for 2026. Each bungalow has its own plunge pool, and the nightly rate covers meals, drinks and a 90-minute spa journey, so you won’t be signing for anything during the stay.

Its own beach, La Solana, is a 175-meter stretch that the resort describes for morning walks, yoga and sunbathing, and guided ocean swims are among its experiences. Naviva guests also have full access to Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, five minutes away, with its two beaches and three pools, so a day on the sand there is easy to add.

Best for: Couples who want privacy and an all-inclusive rate.

Location: Punta Mita, Nayarit, Mexico, next to Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita.

The water: La Solana Beach on site, plus access to Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita’s two beaches, five minutes away.

Babymoon extras: A private plunge pool at every bungalow, with meals, drinks and a 90-minute spa journey in the rate.

3. Fairmont Kea Lani: Best for space in a suite or villa

Fairmont Kea Lani sits on Polo Beach in Wailea, on Maui's south shore, 17 miles from Kahului Airport. Rooms are one-bedroom suites and two-story villas, so there's room for a nap without the curtains drawn on the whole day. There are three pools, and the resort's romance package adds a couples massage, a poolside cabana and a lei-making class, though it isn't written for pregnancy, so tell the spa when you book.

Best for: Couples who'd like more room than a standard hotel room gives them.

Location: Wailea, Maui, Hawaii, 17 miles from Kahului Airport (OGG).

The water: Polo Beach, a Wailea beach that Fairmont promotes for swimming.

Babymoon extras: Suites and villas, three pools and a published romance package.

4. Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita: Best for Pacific beaches you can swim from

The first Four Seasons in Mexico, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita dates to 1999 and sits inside a double-gated community on the Punta Mita peninsula, at the north end of Banderas Bay in Nayarit. The resort covers 52 acres and has 177 rooms and suites, along with villas, residences and three beach homes.

For a babymoon, the beaches are the reason to choose it. Las Cuevas and Manzanillas are both on the property, and the travel service Indagare calls the resort's two swimmable beaches a rarity on Mexico's Pacific coast, where many hotel beaches have strong currents. The open stretches still get some surf, so it's worth asking the beach team where the water is gentlest that day.

Away from the sand, the one- and two-bedroom Plunge Pool Suites put a private pool on your terrace, and there are five restaurants to rotate through, from Mexican cooking at Dos Catrinas to plant-based bowls and sushi at Tamai. If you're already planning the next trip, the resort's Babies for All Seasons program, launched in 2025, lends baby gear and serves house-made purees for children under 18 months. Flight times and transfer details are on the resort's getting-here page.

Best for: Sea swims within an hour of landing.

Location: Punta Mita, Nayarit, Mexico; the drive from Puerto Vallarta's airport (PVR) takes about 45 minutes.

The water: Two swimmable beaches on Banderas Bay, Las Cuevas and Manzanillas.

Babymoon extras: Plunge Pool Suites, five restaurants and a baby program for a return visit.

5. Halekulani: Best for a city babymoon on Waikiki

Halekulani is a 453-room hotel on Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, 18 to 24 minutes from the airport. You're a short walk from restaurants and shops, which counts for a lot when you don't want to drive. Forbes Travel Guide singles out the pre-natal massage at SpaHalekulani, a seven-room spa that it advises booking ahead, and the beach out front offers surfing and snorkeling lessons.

Best for: Couples who want restaurants and shops within walking distance.

Location: Waikiki, Honolulu, Oahu, 18 to 24 minutes from Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL).

The water: Waikiki Beach, with lessons offered on the beach.

Babymoon extras: There's a pre-natal massage at SpaHalekulani.

6. Mauna Lani, Auberge Resorts Collection: Best for a protected cove

Mauna Lani spreads across 34 oceanfront acres on the Big Island's Kohala Coast, with almost half a mile of shoreline and historic fishponds. Of its three beaches, Keiki Beach sits in a protective cove, and there's a separate adults' pool for quieter afternoons. A watersports team runs swims, paddleboarding and reef trips from the beach.

Best for: Gentle swims and an adults' pool.

Location: Kohala Coast, Hawaii Island.

The water: Three beaches, including Keiki Beach in a protective cove.

Babymoon extras: An adults' pool; no babymoon package is published.

7. Andaz Maui at Wailea: Best for a pool day by the beach

Andaz Maui opened in 2013 on 15 acres in Wailea with direct access to Mokapu Beach. The beach has a sandy bottom that slopes gently, which makes for easy swimming when the sea is calm, and a shallow reef toward neighboring Ulua for snorkeling; there's no lifeguard, so mornings are the time to go in. Back on land, the resort has cascading infinity pools, an adults' pool and 290 rooms and suites, plus villas of up to four bedrooms.

Best for: Couples who want to split the day between the sea and a pool.

Location: Wailea, Maui, Hawaii.

The water: Mokapu Beach, sandy and gently sloping, with no lifeguard.

Babymoon extras: An adults' pool; no babymoon package is published.

8. 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay: Best for a summer babymoon package

1 Hotel Hanalei Bay sits on a hillside in Princeville above Hanalei Bay on Kauai's North Shore, with 252 rooms, including 51 suites, and a MICHELIN Key. Its Babymoon in Hanalei offer includes a Frida Mom pregnancy pillow for the stay, a couples massage with the Hapai Maternity Massage and a maternity photo session, and there's a two-night minimum. Go in the right season. Lonely Planet notes that swimming in parts of the bay is dangerous outside the summer calms, and travel guides put the big-swell season at roughly October to April, when shore break and rip currents build. Plan this one for roughly May to September.

Best for: A ready-made babymoon package on a summer trip.

Location: Princeville, Kauai, Hawaii.

The water: Hanalei Bay, usually calm in summer and rough in winter.

Babymoon extras: Pregnancy pillow, Hapai Maternity Massage and a maternity photo session.

9. Maroma, A Belmond Hotel: Best for a small Riviera Maya hotel

It's a small hotel: Maroma has 72 rooms and suites close to the sand at Punta Maroma, on the Riviera Maya between Cancun and Tulum. It reopened in August 2023 after a two-year renovation, and Maroma Spa by Guerlain, the brand's first spa in Latin America, has nine treatment cabins. Forbes Travel Guide gives it Five Stars for 2026 and notes the barrier reef offshore for snorkeling. Sargassum is the variable on this coast, so it's worth asking about recent beach conditions before you book.

Best for: A quiet, small hotel on Mexico's Caribbean coast.

Location: Punta Maroma, Quintana Roo, Mexico; Cancun International Airport (CUN) is the nearest airport.

The water: A white-sand Caribbean beach with a reef offshore; sargassum varies by month.

Babymoon extras: A Guerlain spa; no babymoon package is published.

10. Grand Velas Riviera Maya: Best for all-inclusive dining at any hour

Grand Velas Riviera Maya is an all-inclusive resort with its own white-sand beach near Playa del Carmen, about 45 minutes from Cancun's airport. The rate covers 24-hour in-suite dining, which is useful when hunger doesn't keep regular hours, and the oceanfront Grand Class suites come with private plunge pools and an adults-only pool. Velas Resorts said in July 2026 that all its properties offer prenatal wellness therapies, and the SE Spa here is known for its seven-step Water Ceremony.

Best for: Couples who want meals and drinks covered in one rate.

Location: Playa del Carmen, Riviera Maya, Mexico, about 45 minutes from Cancun International Airport (CUN).

The water: The resort's own Caribbean beach; sargassum varies by month.

Babymoon extras: 24-hour in-suite dining and prenatal therapies offered across Velas resorts.

Planning a babymoon beach trip while pregnant

Three things decide whether a resort suits the weeks you can travel: how far along you'll be, the Zika picture at the destination and the season on that coast.

How to choose a babymoon beach resort

  • Match the beach to your month. Hanalei Bay is a summer choice, sargassum on the Mexican Caribbean tapers off toward November, and Punta Mita sits outside the eastern Pacific hurricane season from December to mid-May.

  • Count the flight hours. Four Seasons lists Puerto Vallarta at about three hours from Los Angeles and just under six from New York by nonstop flight. Check the same numbers for any island before you commit.

  • Decide how much Zika risk you'll accept. Hawaii has no reported cases. Mexico and the Caribbean resorts here are all in areas with current or past transmission, per the CDC.

  • Look for something written for pregnancy. A published prenatal treatment or babymoon offer is a sign the spa has thought about it; elsewhere, tell the spa your due date when you book.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best beach resort for a babymoon?

Our top pick is Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita in Riviera Nayarit, Mexico, for its two swimmable beaches and 45-minute drive from Puerto Vallarta's airport. For a Caribbean bay, Cap Juluca in Anguilla is the alternative, and for a ready-made package on a summer trip, 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay on Kauai.

Is it safe to go to Mexico or the Caribbean while pregnant?

That's a decision to make with your doctor. As of May 15, 2026, the CDC classifies Mexico and many Caribbean islands, including Anguilla, in its current-or-past transmission group. CDC guidance asks pregnant travelers to weigh the risk and their ability to avoid mosquito bites. None of these destinations had an active Zika Travel Health Notice on that date.

Does Hawaii have Zika?

The CDC lists Hawaii as having the mosquito that can carry Zika but no reported Zika cases, as of May 15, 2026.

How far along should you be for a babymoon?

ACOG's preferred window for travel is week 14 through week 28, roughly the fourth to the seventh month. Most airlines allow flights within the US until about 36 weeks.

Is Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, a good babymoon choice?

Naviva is its own resort: 15 tented bungalows for adults only, with everything included in the rate, set in 48 acres of coastal forest near Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, with full access to that resort's restaurants. It's built around privacy, the forest and wellness, and this list is ranked on swimming beaches, so we covered Naviva in our Mexico babymoon list instead.

When are hurricane and sargassum seasons?

Officially, the eastern Pacific season covers May 15 through November 30, and the Atlantic season June 1 through November 30. On Mexico's Caribbean coast, sargassum peaked in June in 2026 and was expected to keep declining until about November.
