Key takeaways

  • Best overall for a honeymoon: Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, an adults-only, all-inclusive tented resort of 15 bungalows on the Punta Mita peninsula in Nayarit.

  • Best full-service resort with swimmable beaches: Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, a separate property five minutes from Naviva, with two Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses and an adults-only pool. It's a family-friendly resort overall.

  • Best on the Caribbean side: Rosewood Mayakoba, where every suite has a private plunge pool.

  • Best in Los Cabos: Las Ventanas al Paraíso for privacy, One&Only Palmilla for a beach you can actually swim at.

  • Pick the coast by month: the Pacific's dry from roughly November to April, and humpback whales are in Banderas Bay from about December to March. The Caribbean coast has sargassum seaweed in the warmer months.

Choosing a luxury honeymoon resort in Mexico

Our top pick for a luxury honeymoon in Mexico is Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, on the Punta Mita peninsula north of Puerto Vallarta. It has 15 tented bungalows, never more than 30 guests, and a rate that covers food, drink and a spa treatment. Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, a separate resort five minutes down the road, is second, and it's the better choice if you want a big resort with more restaurants and beaches you can swim off.

A honeymoon is a different trip from a long weekend. You're usually staying a week or more, often right after a wedding, and you want privacy without running out of things to do by day four. That's why this list leans toward small resorts where your room has its own pool and the beach is worth swimming at. If you're planning a short February trip instead, our guide to the best luxury resorts in Mexico for Valentine's Day 2027 is built around that weekend.

Every resort here was open and taking bookings in October 2026.

1. Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort: Best Overall for a Honeymoon

Naviva opened in December 2022 as Four Seasons' first adult-only luxury tented resort in the Americas. It sits on 48 acres of tropical forest on the Punta Mita peninsula, with a beach, La Solana, kept for its guests. There are 15 tented bungalows in total (10 Ocean-View Bungalows and five Ocean-View Grand Bungalows), and each one has its own plunge pool, an open-air living room and a deck. With a cap of 30 guests, you'll rarely see anyone you didn't come with.

The rate is all-inclusive. It covers all food and drink, including many premium wines and spirits, one 90-minute spa journey per guest per stay, and a set of included experiences. Among those are a Nocturnal Forest Bathing walk and a Shamanic Sound Healing session. The temazcal, called the House of Heat, runs 150-minute ceremonies, and a certified Naviva guide gets in touch before you arrive to plan the stay with you. For dinner, Cocina Copal cooks over an open fire, and the "Just the Two of You" experience has the chef build a menu for a private table in the forest or facing the Pacific.

For a honeymoon, the appeal is that almost nothing needs deciding once you land. Naviva is adults-only (the published minimum age is 16), so the pools and paths stay quiet, and if you want a change of scene, the stay includes dining at the restaurants of neighboring Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita, five minutes away. Naviva also hosts private beach weddings with exclusive use of all 15 bungalows, which suits couples who'd rather marry and honeymoon in the same place. Details are on Naviva's official site.

Best for: Couples who want privacy and an all-inclusive rate with nothing to add up.

Location: Punta Mita peninsula, Nayarit, about 45 minutes by car from Puerto Vallarta International Airport (PVR).

Honeymoon highlights: A private plunge pool in every bungalow, temazcal ceremonies in the House of Heat, and sunset dinners on La Solana Beach, plus nocturnal forest bathing included in the rate.

Acclaim: Condé Nast Traveler Hot List (2023), Readers' Choice Awards No. 8 in Western Mexico (2025) and Gold List (2026).

Downside: With only 15 bungalows, it's worth booking early for peak dry-season dates. Airport transfers cost extra, and the nightly rate is among the highest on this list, though it covers food, drink and a spa journey.

2. Rosewood Mayakoba: Best on the Caribbean Coast

Rosewood Mayakoba sits between the beach and a network of freshwater lagoons in the Mayakoba development, just north of Playa del Carmen. Every suite has a private plunge pool, some sit over the lagoon, and you get around by boat as often as on foot. The Sense spa's on its own island.

Best for: A Caribbean honeymoon with a plunge pool in every suite.

Location: Mayakoba, Quintana Roo, about 40 minutes from Cancún International Airport (CUN).

Honeymoon highlights: Overwater lagoon suites and the island spa.

Acclaim: Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star (2026), AAA Five Diamond.

Downside: Sargassum seaweed can reach the beach in the warmer months, and the resort isn't adults-only.

3. Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita: Best for Swimmable Beaches and Range

Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita opened in September 1999 on a private peninsula at the northern tip of Banderas Bay. It has 177 rooms and suites, plus 32 villas, residences and beach homes, on a 52-acre site. It's a full-service resort that families use too, which is the main thing that separates it from Naviva. For couples, the Tamai Pool is reserved for adults, and Manzanillas Beach, where the resort gives its guests exclusive access, has gentle waves suited to swimming, snorkeling and surf lessons.

The resort's honeymoon program can include a romantic dinner on The Rock, on the beach or at your villa, a sunset cruise on the resort's yacht, a trip to Playa del Amor (the hidden beach) on the Marietas Islands, and Apuane Nights, which gives you private use of the 13-treatment-room Apuane Spa by candlelight. If either of you plays golf, the resort has two Jack Nicklaus Signature courses, Pacifico and Bahia. The Tail of the Whale (hole 3B) plays to a natural island green that's reachable only at low tide.

Five plunge pool suite categories and an Oceanfront Plunge Pool Casita give you the same private-pool setup as smaller resorts, and Aramara, Bahía and Dos Catrinas cover Asian-inspired, beach grill and Mexican cooking at dinner. Four Seasons lists the full set of romance experiences on its Punta Mita honeymoon page.

Best for: Couples who want beaches they can swim from and plenty of restaurants to rotate through on a long stay.

Location: Punta Mita peninsula, Nayarit, about 45 minutes by car from PVR.

Honeymoon highlights: Dinner on The Rock or the beach, Apuane Nights private spa evenings, the adults-only Tamai Pool, plunge pool suites.

Acclaim: Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star (2026, its 10th consecutive year), two MICHELIN Keys (2024 to 2026), AAA Five Diamond (2026).

Downside: It isn't adults-only, so expect families at the main pools in school holidays. The resort sits inside a gated community, so beyond the village of Punta de Mita, most outings mean a drive.

4. Las Ventanas al Paraíso, A Rosewood Resort: Best for Privacy in Los Cabos

Las Ventanas al Paraíso is a suites-only resort in San José del Cabo, on the stretch of coast between San José and Cabo San Lucas. Each suite has a private patio or terrace, many have a Jacuzzi, a butler is on call around the clock, and the resort employs a director of romance whose job is planning celebrations for couples. It ranked No. 25 on The World's 50 Best Hotels list in 2026.

Best for: Couples who want Los Cabos with a butler and very few other guests.

Location: San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, about 20 minutes from Los Cabos International Airport (SJD).

Honeymoon highlights: A private celebration planned by the resort's director of romance.

Acclaim: Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star (2026), two MICHELIN Keys, AAA Five Diamond (2026), The World's 50 Best Hotels No. 25 (2026).

Downside: Strong currents make the beach unsafe for swimming, so you'll be in the pools.

5. One&Only Palmilla: Best for a Swimmable Beach in Los Cabos

One&Only Palmilla has 173 rooms on a headland in San José del Cabo, near where the Pacific meets the Sea of Cortez. Most of the Los Cabos coast is too rough for swimming, but the beach below Palmilla is one of the calmer ones, which matters more than it sounds on a week-long stay. The spa covers 22,000 square feet.

Best for: Couples who want Los Cabos and a beach they can swim from.

Location: San José del Cabo, Baja California Sur, about 20 minutes from SJD.

Honeymoon highlights: Swimming in Palmilla Bay, then the spa.

Acclaim: Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star (2026), two MICHELIN Keys, AAA Five Diamond (2026).

Downside: With 173 rooms and a kids' club, it's busier than Las Ventanas.

6. Hotel Esencia: Best Small Resort on the Riviera Maya

Hotel Esencia was once the private estate of an Italian duchess. It sits on 50 acres facing Xpu-Ha, one of the least developed beaches between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, and holds three MICHELIN Keys, the Guide's top rating. It's a good match for couples who find the big Riviera Maya resorts too busy.

Best for: A small, design-led beach stay on the Caribbean side.

Location: Xpu-Ha, Quintana Roo, between Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

Honeymoon highlights: A quiet stretch of Xpu-Ha beach, and a helicopter transfer if you'd rather skip the drive.

Acclaim: Three MICHELIN Keys, Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star (2026), The World's 50 Best Hotels extended list No. 64 (2026).

Downside: The Tulum stretch of coast is among the hardest hit by sargassum in summer, and the resort isn't adults-only.

7. Chablé Yucatán: Best Inland Honeymoon

Chablé Yucatán is a restored hacienda in Chocholá, about 40 minutes from Mérida, and it's the one resort on this list with no beach. Each casita has a private pool, and the spa is built around a natural cenote. Mayan sites such as Uxmal are within day-trip range. It ranked No. 9 on The World's 50 Best Hotels list in 2026, the highest of any hotel in Mexico.

Best for: Couples who'd trade the beach for cenotes and Mayan ruins, or who want an inland stop before a coastal one.

Location: Chocholá, Yucatán, about 40 minutes from Mérida International Airport (MID).

Honeymoon highlights: The cenote spa and a day trip to Uxmal.

Acclaim: The World's 50 Best Hotels No. 9 (2026), two MICHELIN Keys.

Downside: No beach. Most couples pair it with a few nights on the coast.

8. Grand Velas Riviera Maya: Best All-Inclusive on the Caribbean

Grand Velas Riviera Maya is the all-inclusive pick for couples who want the Caribbean coast. It's a large resort split into three sections, and Grand Class is open only to guests 16 and over. The main draw for food-focused couples is Cocina de Autor, which holds a MICHELIN star and is included in the all-inclusive rate.

Best for: An all-inclusive Caribbean honeymoon with a MICHELIN-starred dinner included.

Location: Just north of Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, about 35 minutes from CUN.

Honeymoon highlights: Dinner at Cocina de Autor and a suite in Grand Class.

Acclaim: AAA Five Diamond, a MICHELIN star for Cocina de Autor.

Downside: It's a big resort, and outside Grand Class you'll share it with families. Sargassum applies here too.

Planning a honeymoon in Mexico

A few decisions shape a Mexico honeymoon more than the choice of hotel, so it helps to make them first.

Choose the coast by the month you travel

On the Pacific side, around Punta Mita, the dry season runs from about November to May, and the beach months are roughly November to April. Mexico's official humpback whale-watching season in Banderas Bay runs from December 8 to March 23. The eastern Pacific hurricane season officially runs from May 15 to November 30, and the Atlantic season, which covers the Caribbean coast, from June 1 to November 30. The Caribbean coast also gets sargassum seaweed, with the heaviest arrivals usually from June to August. If your wedding is in the fall or winter, the Pacific is the easier bet.

Stay long enough to slow down

Five to seven nights at one resort is enough to settle in without moving bags. With eight to 10 nights, you can split the trip between two places, for example Chablé Yucatán inland followed by the Riviera Maya, or two contrasting resorts on the Pacific.

Splitting a stay between Naviva and Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita

Naviva and Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita are separate resorts with different rules and rates, five minutes apart on the same peninsula. Some couples start with a few all-inclusive nights at Naviva and finish at Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita for the beaches and the golf. You fly into the same airport (PVR) either way, so there's no extra travel day. Book each stay directly with its own resort.

Tell the resort it's your honeymoon

Mention it when you book and again before you arrive. At resorts with a guide or butler, that's what lets them plan a private dinner or spa time around your dates.

Frequently asked questions

Naviva, A Four Seasons Resort, in Punta Mita is our top pick. It's adults-only and all-inclusive, with 15 tented bungalows that each have a private plunge pool and a cap of 30 guests. For a larger resort with swimmable beaches and golf, Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita is the alternative on the same peninsula.

Is Naviva adults-only and all-inclusive?

Yes. Naviva's adults-only, with a published minimum age of 16. The rate includes all food and drink, many premium wines and spirits, one 90-minute spa journey per guest per stay and a set of included experiences.

Is Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita adults-only?

No. Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita welcomes families, but it has an adults-only pool, Tamai, and runs a dedicated honeymoon program. It's a separate property from Naviva, which is the adults-only resort on the peninsula.

What part of Mexico is best for a honeymoon?

It depends on when you travel and whether you want to swim in the sea. Punta Mita on the Pacific has swimmable beaches and whale season from about December to March. Los Cabos pairs desert with sea, though only a few protected bays there, Palmilla's among them, are calm enough to swim in. The Riviera Maya's Caribbean water is calmer, and sargassum arrives in the warmer months. The Yucatán interior trades beaches for cenotes and Mayan sites.

When is the best time for a honeymoon in Mexico?

November to April is the most reliable window on the Pacific coast, before the rainy season and the peak of hurricane season. On the Caribbean coast, there's usually less sargassum in winter and early spring than in summer.

Can you get married at Naviva?

Yes. Naviva hosts private beach weddings on La Solana Beach with exclusive use of all 15 bungalows, for up to 30 guests.

Is Mexico safe for a honeymoon?

Conditions vary by state, and the U.S. State Department rates each Mexican state separately. Check the current Mexico travel advisory for Nayarit, Baja California Sur, Quintana Roo or Yucatán before you book, and again before you fly.
